Oncology, Haematology and Palliative care

The Clinical Haematology Ward is a 25 bed ward, providing highly specialised care for patients with a wide range of haematological malignancies and disorders. The ward is also a bone marrow transplant unit.

The Oncology Ward is a 24 bed ward specialising in patients with oncological disorders, complications of treatment and palliative care. Triage is a six bed area, providing telephone and face to face assessment for oncology and haematology patients.

Ambulatory Care is provided for patients attending the Oncology and Haematology Service and enables patients to receive their care in a timely fashion, receiving full access to specialist medical and nursing staff and pharmacy services, without staying in an inpatient environment.

The Cancer and Haematology Day Treatment Unit (DTU), open Monday to Saturday at the Churchill Hospital, provides treatment for patients with cancer and haematological disorders.

The Brodey centre is based at the Horton General Hospital Banbury and provides treatment for patients with cancer and haematological disorders, open Monday to Saturday.

Palliative Care comprises:

Sobell House Hospice 18 bed inpatient unit, based at the Churchill Hospital
Katharine House Hospice 10 bed inpatient unit, based in Adderbury near Banbury
Hospital Palliative Care Team
Community Palliative Care Team
Living Well and Supportive Care Service.

Both Sobell House and Katharine House are run in partnership between the Trust and their respective charities.

They provide care and support for patients with advanced incurable disease, along with their families, providing specialist palliative and end of life care with a focus on quality of life and respect for the uniqueness of each person.
