Their clinical presentation, therapy options, prognosis and survival rates vary significantly, so it is vital that diagnosis, prognosis determination and disease monitoring is accurate and timely.
The Oxford Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (SIHMDS) was set up in 2011 to provide a comprehensive assessment of patients with diagnosed or suspected haematological malignancies.
The service incorporates all the pathology specialisms associated with haematological malignancy diagnosis including:
- morphology
- histology including immunohistochemistry
- immunophenotyping
- cytogenetics
- FISH
- molecular studies.
The different sections of the laboratory are unified in a process that covers all investigational pathways, has a single central specimen reception and issues a single integrated report.
