Mitochondrial antibodies are a highly sensitive and specific marker of Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, present in 95% of cases. Also found in a small percentage of patients with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. Mitochondrial antibodies are directed against Pyruvate Dehydrogenase.
