This test measures the percentage of CD3 positive alpha/beta T cells which negative for both CD4 and CD8. These cells are raised in frequency in Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS). ALPS is a rare disorder of lymphocyte apoptosis associated with autoimmunity and lymphoproliferation. Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) are common autoimmune phenomena in these patients.
Specimen requirements
1 mL EDTA blood must be received in the Immunology Laboratory within 48 hours of venepuncture. Samples must NOT have been refrigerated or centrifuged and must arrive before 4pm on Fridays.
