There are also specialist surgical clinics for patients with heart or lung problems.
The clinics are consultant-led, and usually include a team of clinicians such as specialist registrars and specialist nurses.
Patients are usually referred by their GP, but some are referred from other hospitals and from other specialists in Oxford.
In many cases the department offers a 'one stop' service. This means that tests such as echocardiography, electrocardiography and exercise testing are performed on the same day, and patients can discuss the results with the consultant without the need for a follow-up appointment.

The waiting time for outpatients after receipt of the GP's letter is typically around 8-12 weeks .
